Fuumi Burlingame

Fuumi Burlingame, located at 1190 Broadway in Burlingame, CA, offers an inviting and intimate dining experience in one of the most up-and-coming areas of the city. The cozy atmosphere of this sushi spot makes it a perfect choice for both casual dinners and special occasions, although it's worth noting that it can get busy during peak hours.

One of the standout features of Fuumi is its incredibly fresh seafood, with many guests noting the top-notch quality of the fish, especially in their sushi and omakase offerings. The omakase, priced at $55-60, is considered an exceptional value for the quality and variety it provides. Each course in the omakase is beautifully prepared, offering a delightful balance of flavors and textures that showcase the restaurant's attention to detail.

If you're a sushi enthusiast, you'll find Fuumi’s selection to be impressive, with a wide range of fresh fish options. The tuna, in particular, has been described as incredibly fresh, while other items like smoked salmon nigiri and unagi stand out for their unique flavors. The unagi is notably sweeter than what some might expect, and while the spider roll offers an exciting crunch, some might find it a bit too intense on the fryer side.

The service at Fuumi adds to the overall experience, with friendly and attentive staff, who are more than happy to offer recommendations, such as sake pairings, to enhance your meal. The welcoming and thoughtful nature of the service contributes to the warm, inviting atmosphere, making each visit feel personal and enjoyable.

Located in the revived Broadway area, Fuumi benefits from the vibrant dining scene around it, providing a variety of choices while maintaining a unique and cozy charm that’s perfect for sushi lovers or anyone seeking fresh, high-quality food in a laid-back yet refined setting.

Dropped by this spot in the now-trendy Broadway Burlingame scene. The tuna was fresh enough to still have its swimming license, while the unagi was a little on the sweeter side. Spider roll pulled a Michael Bay - a bit too much action in the fryer. But my friend's udon and chashu ramen stole the show. Caught myself eyeing their bowls through the night. Attentive service and always a smile made dinner really pleasant. Burlingame's Broadway has really grown up from its dark deserted days. Plenty of options to dine that have upped the environment

This restaurant has a cozy, intimate feel, so be mindful if you visit during peak hours--it can get busy. I tried a few dishes, and the fish was incredibly fresh--some of the best I've had! The standout for me was the omakase, which at $55-60 is an excellent value. Each course was beautifully prepared, offering a great variety of flavors and textures. Overall, I had no complaints and really enjoyed the entire experience. If you're a sushi lover or looking for fresh, high-quality food, this place is definitely worth a visit!

It was my first time going here Sunday night and they were all so welcoming. Each person greeted us as we walked over to grab our seat. Freda was our server and she was super sweet! We wanted to order sake but we were indecisive and she recommended a great one for us! I love that she shared her opinion for each drink and even told is that there is a new one coming soon :) ! The ambiance was great- we were the first ones to walk in so it was pretty quiet but even when others walked in, it felt very private! The sushi and smoked salmon nigiri were both delicious!

We came on a weekday dinner time. I successfully made an appointment online during their closed hours. (5 stars for this reservation access) Food was very delicious, good presentation, size was just right. Ramen was generous. Udon was good. Rolls were all rolled nicely. Sunny side egg was too runny. A soy sauce runny egg can be substituted or cook the egg on low fire for a more cooked yolk. Eggs here are not pasteurized like Japan so this level of runny egg is not recommended. Service was wonderful. The waitress was patient to allow us to look over the menu as the QR code didn't work for my phone. Decor was causal; suitable for couples, groups, family dinners. It was a good size restaurant. Tables were well spaced out and didn't feel crowded. Bathroom could use some TLC. Lightning was too dim. I would recommend this small business.

Checking out Sweet Citrus Burlingame on Broadway Avenue, V and I saw Fuumi and have since had it on our radar for a few months. Returning to the street to initially dine at Café Figaro, we decided to walk over to Fuumi and check out their menu, then subsequently chose to have dinner here instead on Sunday, July 14, 2024. We arrived around 7:45 PM, entering through the back door...because we didn't identify the front entrance from the outside. No worries, though - we discovered the private parking lot this way. Enter smiley face emoji here. The small venue, consisting of a single dining room with marble or granite top tables and black chairs, a television mounted on the wall, a few booths at the windows, and a sushi bar, was well kept and clean on the evening of our visit. Maximum occupancy is probably about 75 persons. Below are some the items that we ordered: Hamachi (Yellow Tail) Nigiri - Mom found this sushi to be good and fresh enough to order seconds of it. Chashu Ramen - This was Z's first time ordering ramen at a restaurant. He enjoyed his bowl of noodle soup. The broth looked creamy and Mom was impressed by the roasted brussels sprouts toppings. Agedashi Tofu (6 pcs) - Good; however, I think we received only 4 pieces instead of 6. Katsu Chicken Plate - Both V and I ordered this dish. The entrée was a generous serving and the katsu was perfectly golden brown with a slight crisp. V did find skin or fat or something of the like in his katsu, though. Glad that I didn't run into that. Mochi Ice Cream (Green Tea & Strawberry) - Served with toppings of whipped cream and sides of chocolate sauce, the presentation was nice. V enjoyed this dessert. Our food came out pretty quickly. Athena was our server. She was very informative, friendly, and helpful. By the middle of our meal, Mom and V commented that we may have found a new Japanese restaurant to frequent, so sounds like we will return.
